Man Hunt Ends with Murder Suspect SurrenderingAnchorage police arrest Lee Chee Chang on first-degree murder charges after they say he turned himself in Wednesday night.Related Content
Anchorage Police Press Release:
Anchorage Police Department Homicide detectives arrested Lee Chee Chang on 10-12-11 at 22:30 hours by authority of an arrest warrant on a charge of Murder 1st degree. Detectives believe that Lee Chang fired a handgun at point blank range at Emilio Ramirez while Lee Chang was standing over Ramirez as he lay on the pavement in the parking lot of JJ’s Lounge. Ramirez died as a result of the gunshot wounds. Immediately after the shooting, Vang Chang took the handgun from Lee Chang and ran from the scene with it. Vang Chang has already been arrested on charges related to this incident. Lee Chang surrendered to APD detectives at Anchorage Police Headquarters on 10-12-11 at 21:15 hours. He was accompanied by his attorney, Rex Butler. Lee Chang is scheduled to be arraigned on 10-13-11 after 14:30 hours at Anchorage Jail Court. His bail will be set at that court appearance. Homicide Unit detectives are continuing their investigation of this case. Additional information will be released as it becomes available. |

Joblessness is the number one reason why the crime rate in Anchorage is so high. If these guys are employed, the wouldn't have the time to hang out in bars and on street corners all night long and ended up fighting, shooting and killing. We need a vocational school in Anchorage that does not require students to have a highschool diploma first. More schools, less prisons.

Ask yourself if you saw someone kill your own brother what would u do? Lee Chang will get SET FREE!!! The Changs are innocent. Rameriz was the coward trying to start something couldn't stay his ground so called for backup. I am proud of the Chang's for standing up. Kameng Chang was a person full of hopes & dreams. Don't you dare judge them. God knows the truth and the truth will expose itself. Let's wait until it happens to your family!!!!

castogere, it is self defense when someone shot your brother right in front of you and you shoot them back, isn't it? At least that is the story i was told. We will have to just wait and find out won't we? Now is that self defense when someone shot your brother right in front of you and you with your own gun, will you defend yourself and your brother and your friends? None of us were there so lets leave it at that. Chang's brother died that night and he shot someone dead as well. So can you at least keep that in mind that his brother died as a result? If you just keep that in mind, i think we can all agree to watch how this trial will be heard. i doubt it is going to be a fair trial. NO Hmong man has ever gotten a fair trial in the USA's Criminal injustice corrupted court anyway.

When I heard they were looking for this guy I thought "yeah, I know where you can find him...just head on over to Rex Butlers office". In Rex's defense he does get people to turn themselves in so that is good. I was actually going to leave that comment before this guy turned himself in but didn't want to bad mouth Rex Butler. When I see the picture of Lee Chang it just makes me sad. He looks like a nice young man I might see working in a store somewhere and help me find something. Or he could be a computer wizz. He doesn't have a hardened face. Just wish people didn't "play with guns"...they are not toys.

Self defense mr hmong....if the victim is lying on the ground and you shoot to kill...that IS NOT self defense...thats murder. Self defense dictates that the aggressor be in a attacking stance...it doesn't seem that way does it? Just like if the attacker is fleeing...you cannot shoot them in the back. Don't look like self defense to me.

"Anchorage Police Press Release:" Just as I was afraid of, the police is corrupted and bias. With this report they gave, they have already demonized Mr. Chang as the guilty criminal without mentioning the death of his brother at all as part of this report. This is unfair and unjust to Mr. Chang in public viewing.

The police claimed to have interview countless witness to this shooting. It will be very interesting how this gets played out. I just hope that the death of Mr. Chang's brother is not ignored, his death play a crucial evident of self defense in Mr. Chang's case.

This report is incomplete and bias. There was more than 1 death. Mr. Emilio Ramirez was not the only one that died in this incident. There was another person that died, he was the brother of Mr. Chang. From what I have heard from the Hmong community, Mr. Emilio Ramirez shot and killed the brother of Chang and in self defense, he shot Mr. Emilio Ramirez and then they ran. The real issue here is, why did this shooting occur? Also, I have heard that Mr. Emilio Ramirez shot Chang's brother at point blank as well. However, the reality is, Mr. Chang will never get a fair and just trial in the America Justice system, simply because he is a minority of the minority, I sure hope I am wrong. He is already guilty before the trial start even though he clearly shot Mr. Emilio Ramirez in self defense. The fact that he turned himself him shows that he didn't just kill someone cold blooded. I will follow this case closely. By the way, the media didn't report bout the brother, already biased
