It could be the biggest birthday cake in Alaska, but there weren’t a lot of leftovers.

Saturday, the Alaska Zoo threw a birthday party for polar bears, Aphun and Lyutyik.

Aphun, who turns 14 this year, and Lyutyik, who turns 12, celebrated the occasion with hundreds of zoo visitors and their very own snow cake.

Zoo staff members said the cake had a secret ingredient – sea oil, which made it irresistible to the bears.

Party guests young and old joined the festivities and said it was truly a family event.

“Well we’re having a family reunion,” said John Hall. “I have four kids and they’re all together here, and they brought my grand-kids just for the weekend, because Holden and his family just came back from South Africa, and so the kids from Texas, Oregon and here are all together.

The Alaska Zoo is open every day in the winter from 10 to 4.
