It costs $10 to drop off any used material in the lot; they can't drop it off for you, but if you want anything from the lot, it is free for the public.

If you're in need of free firewood, look no more as the city's wood lot is expected to have plenty of it over the summer.

The Anchorage Soil and Water Conservation District woodlot is now open for the season.

The wood lot will be taking any unused trees and brush that will be converted into useable wood for the public.

More than 25 tons of ground material is supplied to the community each year for different projects.

“It avoids taking the shrubbery to the dump, it gives back to the public rather than it going to waste,” said Jerry Carter, an ASWCD attendant.

It costs $10 to drop off any used material in the lot; they can't drop it off for you, but if you want anything from the lot, it is free for the public.

It will be open to the public Thursday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is located on the corner of C Street and 100th Avenue and closes Oct. 2.
