This weekend has been designated Pet New Year.

The Anchorage Animal Care and Control (AACC) is partnering with the Alaska SPCA to offer a discounted rabies vaccination and microchip clinic this weekend.

The event is designed to encourage more people to license and microchip their pets.

Rabies vaccinations will be given for $5 and microchips will be $30, but that's only half of the celebration.

“We have the [Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson] military canine unit coming out, they’re going to do their security K-9 demonstration including apprehension technique, and watching those dogs in action is amazing,” said Brook Taylor of AACC.

The special Pet New Year party will be held at the Alaska Mill and Feed warehouse on East 1st Avenue, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will also be education booths, giveaways, door prizes and demonstrations.
