ANCHORAGE - Anchorage Parks and Recreation will not allow snowmachines in Kincaid Park this year.

In January, the group Sno-X Lions put together a proposal to allow snowmachine access on the 15-acre Jodhpur Motocross Area.

Parks and Recreation decided Thursday to allow Sno-X Lions to apply for up to four special events there next winter. That will give the city a chance to look at the impacts of snowmachines in the park.

“They're giving us a chance to do some shows in the meantime while we look forward to getting a bigger and more appropriate venue where everyone can ride. So I think it's a win-win,” said Sno-X Lions President Dane Ferguson.

Parks and Recreation Director John Rodda agreed. “Is it the best possible outcome, again, being fair and reasonable? Yeah. We're going to work with them. We understand there's a need; that's the way it is. But Kincaid is not the right place.”

Parks and Rec also requested Sno-X Lions put together a plan for a permanent site for snowmachining within the Anchorage or Eagle River area. That proposal is due by April 2014.
