A better idea, make payments per household, not per person. As for the whole year one must reside before collecting, maybe it should be more than that. It is intended for those who plan on keeping a long term residency here, not for those who might only be here for a couple of years, so technically most of the military folks stationed here are not eligible and yet I know most file for it. As for the "riffraff", they are everywhere not just here. Some of those non taxpaying individuals choose Alaska because the welfare benefits are much easier to obtain here than in other states, not just for the PFD. And how pathetic that anyone would base a decision about having a child on what monetary gain they might get as a result. But that's just another result of our current society that holds no one responsible for their own actions.

I do think that amount is a little low compared to everything they have been saying up to this point. I also see things for a lot of your perspectives, a lot of people come up her for work (or the military sends them up here) and they are normal working class people. However, I have also seen fairly large 6 people come up here and make comments about "finally getting some free money" and then they get upset to find out that they don't get handed a check right away. However, I think the most repulsive thing I saw a couple years ago, was a lady (appeared Alaskan native) who was pregnant rubbing her belly and telling someone, that she has "another PFD coming next year" while I was walking into Fred Meyer on Muldoon. It is because of people like that, that I could agree with dissolving the fund and putting the money where it could still be used by everyone. Maybe fix the road instead of just fill a pothole?

I'm surprised to find so many on this page who think the PFD is a socialist concept, or tht anyone who chooses to become an Alaskan is "riff-raff." PFD's are actual dividends on an investment Alaskans make each year in the resources their state provides to oil producers. As Alaskans, we invest in our future and the future of our state by living and working here. The PFD pays us a dividend on that investment. Most Alaskans come from somewhere else. My children were born in Alaska and I've lived here for 32 years. That makes me older than most of the indigenous population of the state. Should I feel like I am riff-raff because I looked for -- and found -- a better life in Alaska? Most of your arguements about the PFD are uninformed and unkind. It makes me sad to think that I've lived here long enough to see Alaskans treating each other with such disdain. With or without the PFD, one has to ask: Where did our free-hearted "live and let Live" Alaskan spirit go?

Those of you talkin about a pfd payout. I have two words for you STATE TAX!!! along with fedral tax and maybe city tax. might as well -$500 off your hard earned paychecks and whatever else goverment wants to add to it to replace approrations. PFD was made by alaskan people for alaskan people.

it helps a lot and got kids in treatment to get help growing up in broken families and to break the cycle and they want child support and give a single mom with kids at home to take care of i need a nother job or just be lazy and fill out for fs and atap that sucks
73725356PDM said on Monday, Sep 12 at 3:27 PM
$1180, is that all? The fund hade to years of record gains in that equation. I thoght Parnell said he was going subsidize fuel cost to the tune of $2000. That's barely going to put a dent in my student loan.

Do away with the PFD give away - save the money, lower cigarette taxes, fix ALL the roadsm allow for AK to join in the national Lotteries (and the State would get more revenue from the lottery sales)

The PFD helps balance the extra cost of airline tickets, auto fuel, and utilities prices. military 30 years ago. But does that make us less Alaskan. Lazy people.... go dip netting salmon. Each fillet is $12 each. 12x60= 720 more savings by not being lazy. (deer, caribou), In fact I see more vets taking on AK activities than most AKNs. But how many of u are kids of VETs.

If you think that doing away with the PFD will keep riff raff out of Alaska, your 100% WRONG!Thats why you have so many perverts and low life with criminal records. They come to the "Last Frontier" to hide. Get lost in the woods, and lay low.Much lower than their LOW character.
73564057jjj said on Thursday, Sep 8 at 1:24 PM
I don't think people move up here for a lousy PFD payment of 1100 dollars. All those ALASKA shows on tv are bringing people here. Lack of jobs in lower 48 are bringing people here. ESCAPING TYRANNY is another reason people are coming here. A NICE ARCTIC WINTER WILL SEND MOST HOME!
73561619Anonymous said on Thursday, Sep 8 at 10:03 AM
Some of yall need to just shut up already cause i am orginally from the lower 48 and I am not a hood rat thank you very much. It seems like you have the criminals here so whoever made that comment needs to sit down and shut the hell up with all these sex offenders here who are true alaskans so to speak.

You want the right way to have a pay out for the dividend. Well think about this one. The true way is to give the pay out to the people that were here BEFORE the dividend was introduced to Alaskan. If you think back after the first one came out that is when all the other lower 48 started moving up here for the dividend. The families of the people that were here before should qualify. That would be the true way. That is how the program should have worked in the first place. Then it wouldn't have had all those other people come up here. Now look at our situation, the job market has been so screwed up and a lot of the people that were here before can't even find jobs due to the extra people coming up for the dividend. Pretty sad don't you think.

Give it time and the government will find a way to yank it out from under us just like everything else.

The current residency requirements came about due to a court decision. If I recall correctly, originally, years of residence in Alaska were a determining factor in the amount of PFD. The Permanent Fund was supposed to be a rainy-day account for a future with no oil revenues. The PFD was a device to keep the fund under scrutiny by the public so the Legislature would not dip into it without good reason.

"true alaskans" give me a break. You people here are so hateful and I can't imagine wanting to be anything close to what is described as a 'true alaskan". go ahead...order me to the lower 48. LOL. You have been blessed so much yet you (true alaskans) seems so bitter and hateful.
73525419Hazy AK said on Wednesday, Sep 7 at 9:14 PM
If it ain't broken, don't fix it!! The PFD is the only thing in this world that most full time workers get for 'free'. If you want to take it away from 'outsiders' I want it taken away from everyone who eats on my tax money. QUEST is a FEDERAL program. I work, you eat. Every time the working man gets a break, the poor non-working man complains. SAD SAD SAD. We should do away with democracy and switch to socialism.

so only pay people born here. What about the folks that have been here 30-40 years

@marcusA: what a great idea! get the whole chicken to only have the government tax you on it which you'll only probably get 2/3 or less of it or receive a few eggs every year.

No pay out...short sightedness is not good for anyone. With Alaska's youth committing suicide at 3x's the national average, we need some new blood in here...not all people coming here are "riff raff" as you say. I have met more "low life's" that grew up here than people that moved here!
73522134ricky f, said on Wednesday, Sep 7 at 7:13 PM
pay only to who was born in alaska and the true alaskan, the one that was here for ten of thosand rears, or vote for payout
73521581VOTE FOR PAYOUT said on Wednesday, Sep 7 at 6:55 PM
I would vote for a payout only IF THE ORIGINAL PEOPLE THAT WERE BORN IN ALASKA are paid out, that means people that have ALASKA as their residence when BORN here...
