FAIRBANKS — One person was killed early Thursday in a mobile home fire on Hoselton Road, off Airport Way.

A caller reported the fire at 3:26 a.m. from the Mitchell Expressway, and firefighters arrived at the scene two minutes later, according to University Fire Department Capt. Forrest Kuiper.

Kuiper said the older mobile home was engulfed by fire when firefighters from both the University and city of Fairbanks fire departments arrived. He said they started with an “aggressive interior attack and search” and found the adult occupant dead.

The victim’s name will not be released until the State Medical Examiner’s Office has made a positive identification.

Firefighters were still battling small rekindled fires inside the destroyed home late Thursday morning and early afternoon. A neighboring mobile home, less than 20 feet away, appeared untouched by the fire.

State fire officials are investigating the cause of the blaze.
