ANCHORAGE - Anchorage police have identified the officers who returned fire at Jason Barnum at the Merrill Field Inn on Thursday, September 13, after Barnum began firing from a motel bathroom and grazed the back of an officer.

The officer who was wounded in the shootout is Officer Dan Thyen, a 15-and-a-half-year veteran of the department. Officer Joel Breiner, a 14-year veteran, also fired at Barnum.

Thyen was released from the hospital about two hours after the shooting, according to APD, and is expected to return to light duty Tuesday after recovering at home.

You know, ordinarily I'm about as anti-cop as they come, but after viewing the sub-human animal they arrested, I hope this time the cop recovers and goes on with life -thanks-
