JUNEAU - Senator Lisa Murkowski told the Alaska State Legislature today that the odds don't look good for opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to oil exploration during this congress, under this administration.

In her annual address to lawmakers, at the Capitol, Murkowski touched on a variety of state and federal issues.

She said the vote by Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives to open ANWR would be in vain because of the Democratic leadership in the U.S. Senate.

"Yet even with high unemployment, $100 oil [and] an empty treasury, we still don't seem to have 60 votes to break the filibuster in the senate and if we did, I’m convinced that the majority leader would bend over backwards to keep this off the floor,” said Murkowski.

Murkowski also vowed to keep fighting an air force proposal to relocate the F-16 squadron from Eielson Air Force Base in Fairbanks to joint base Elmendorf Richardson, in Anchorage.
