JUNEAU - Oil taxes are the talk of the current legislative session in Juneau. Residents now have a chance to weigh in on the issue.

The Senate Resources Committee is holding two public hearings over its proposed bill - SB192 - which would change the way the state taxes oil companies when prices are extremely high.

Opponents of the change said the state should ensure any tax reductions result in guaranteed investment by producers.

Governor Sean Parnell and many house Republicans said the current tax structure takes too much from oil companies. The senate majority said either way it would like to put the issue to rest this session.

Tax should be not be based on the per barrel cost, but also on the percent of Alaska residents hired. BP does not care as long as they win. Safety record, they act like they care, spills they will pay the fine way cheaper than fixing the problems. Smoke and mirrors. Anyone that has worked on PB knows the truth, not some politician in a nice warm office.

Oil companies continue to book record profits, but we are taking too much from them??? Pull your head out Parnell! I take it there are kickbacks involved, to support such total BS.
