(CBS News) Whenever a community like Newtown, Conn., is hit by tragedy, Americans immediately pitch in to try and help.

The first visible example of that in Newtown was a flood of stuffed animals. Other contributions are paying for funerals, helping with counseling, and creating scholarships in the victims' memory.

Here are some websites where you can go to offer your help:

Sandy Hook School Support Fund
Newtown Memorial Fund
The Newtown Rotary Sandy Hook School Fund
The American Red Cross
Ryan Kraft - donations for Sandy Hook PTA
Call Connecticut Emergency Response at (800) 203-1234
The Helping Hands Project
