Former lawmakers Pete Kott and Vic Kohring will get their rematch with the U.S. Department of Justice this fall.
On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Ralph Beistline set a tentative trial date of October 24 for Kohring, and November 28 for Kott. Both trials are scheduled to be held in Anchorage. Kott and Kohring, both longtime members of the State House, were convicted in 2007 of accepting bribes in connection with a new oil production tax and a proposed contract for a natural gas pipeline—they were sentenced to prison. However, a federal appeals court overturned their convictions and ordered new trials after concluding that prosecutors had withheld evidence that would have been helpful to their defense. |
