Construction season is in full swing in south Anchorage and roundabouts are the name of the game on Huffman Road.

The construction centers at the intersection of Huffman Road and the New Seward Highway where city crews are installing several new roundabouts this summer.

One roundabout has already been successfully installed at the intersection of Huffman Park Drive and Brandon Street and after a three-week closure, the road is expected to reopen Sunday night.

Farther up the road though, the on and off ramps of the New Seward Highway will be closed for five weeks starting Monday, Aug. 8., as city crews replace traffic signals with roundabouts.

While the improvements are meant to smooth the flow of traffic around the highway, businesses in the area are a bit skeptical.

"It can make traffic go by faster, but from my personal opinion, during the wintertime I feel it's a little more dangerous because it's more slick,” said area worker Brennen Lamb. He also expressed concern about drivers who are unfamiliar with using roundabouts.
