Non-Profit Offers Special Art Classes, Artwork
Developmentally disabled adults learn, create
A nonprofit in town is inspiring a new crop of Alaska artists who experience disabilities.
Focus: art was just started up in October, by Focus Inc., a nonprofit which also offers several other programs, but already nine of the organization’s artists have begun the work of creating a collection of drawings, paintings and prints.
Focus is partnering with Out North Art House to provide art classes and open studio time for adults who experience developmental disabilities.
Organizers say the program provides an opportunity for interaction with other artists, which some say they’ve never had before.
