Investing Thousands to Relieve Overcrowding at Popular Glen Alps TrailheadA new $715,000 plan aims to fix the parking problem around the Glen Alps trailhead.
A nice summer day on the Glen Alps makes for a great spot to get outside, but there's only one problem: it’s usually pretty packed.
People love coming to the Glen Alps, but now that it’s illegal to park on the road, it’s getting overcrowded and a new $715,000 parking plan was passed in the state budget to alleviate congestion. “I like to climb the peaks. It’s very convenient, it’s close from Anchorage [and] it’s only twenty minutes,” said hiker Rachad Reyess. State Representative Les Gara, D-Anchorage said, “It’s a quality of life thing. You don’t want to make it ugly so you don’t overdo it.” Even though there is now a possible solution, there still may be problems in parkingland. Gara said he expects Governor Sean Parnell will veto some projects from the capital budget, but hopes the Glen Alps parking plan will not be among the slashed projects. |
