School lunches are getting healthier.
For the first time in 15 years, the federal government has announced new guidelines aimed combating childhood obesity.
Here are some of the new rules: Schools will have to serve fruits and vegetables every day of the week, use more whole grains, less salt, and serve low-fat milk. The guidelines also aim to limit calories by controlling portion sizes.
Schools will have three years to comply with the guidelines. KTVA spoke with Anchorage school officials Wednesday afternoon. They say they had just heard about the changes to the guidelines and are in the process of looking them over.
