ANCHORAGE - The Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center today opened for business at its new location in Midtown, after 41 years in Fairview.
The private non-profit organization moved into its new $28 million building over the week, completing a process that took 10 years.
The relocated health center offers a “pod” concept that groups medical providers close to each other, so that patients have access to a wide range of services without having to move too far in the building.
"I would guess there's a huge number of people yet in the Anchorage area who have been doing without health care, for a variety of reasons,” said Len Stewart, the executive director, “but we are certainly able to increase our capacity and take them in and make certain they get the care they need."
The health center serves anyone who shows up, whether you have insurance or not.
It will charge a sliding scale based on your income and ability to pay.
