Neighbor Suing Bean's Cafe, Brother Francis ShelterOwner of Grubstake Auction says homeless service centers are hurting his businessANCHORAGE - A man who owns property near the Brother Francis Shelter says enough is enough. He's now suing to get the shelter to move or close its doors. The owner of Grubstake Auction in Anchorage is selling his inventory here in Wasilla because he can't sell it here – the Fairview property he’s owned for almost 30 years. “How do you bring in customers when there is swearing, yelling, defecating, having sexual acts in front of the crowd… I mean it's very sad,” said Ron Alleva, Grubstake’s owner. Alleva owns, lives, and works on property that surrounds the Brother Francis Shelter and Bean’s Café – two organizations he considers bad neighbors, who he says didn’t keep their promise when they moved in. “They told me they'd never rebuild, they told me they'd never expand, but they basically they didn't tell the truth.” His lawsuit also names the city, which owns the land where the shelter and café sit. Alleva says he's just as frustrated with officials who haven’t done enough. “My compassion hasn’t expired as much as my tolerance for their lack of management to address the issues as they come up.” Alleva insists he is sensitive to the homeless, but he doesn’t want them here. Even so, he plans to move his business to a different spot, and hopes the troubles don't follow him there. None of the people involved with the lawsuit will comment just yet. The city attorney says his office is reviewing the issue and will respond within 20 days. |

Hopefully the city will offer to help this man move his business to another location of his choice, if they had in fact violated a "written agreement". The homeless need a refuge. A lot of these folks are hopelessly addicted to substances, are mentally incapacitated, or plain just don't have a place to live. Just for one moment, put yourself in their shoes, facing destitution, and despair on a daily basis, far beyond this landowner's problems. I know I would want someone to reach out their hand and lift me up should I need it. You see, this is the best part of who we are and we must never forget this, as Christians……………

Well...Mr. Alleva is just one of many property owners who have been compromised by homeless living on public land. Many homes along the greenbelts, parks and other places also have to deal with homeless. The city have refused to act and always allows ACLU to dictate te conditions. White flags waved by the city to ACLU is part of the problems.

The city should either station more police in the area or barring that, buy the property from the owner at fair market value. It sounds harsh, but Anchorage is woefully lacking in mental health facilities and ways for them to find their way back into society. Remember that a large number of homeless are children. These days all it takes is a sick family member or the outsourcing of your job for you to find yourself on the street. Fair is fair, find a solution that doesn't leave either party out in the Alaska cold.

Stop feeding them and housing them. Darwin rules will solve the issue. Lib believe in evolution so much let it run it's course. There is no way a lib will spend a dime of their own money to solve issues. And other peoples money is running out.
