After a South Anchorage car accident pinned 8-year-old Xavier Morales-Rodriguez under a limousine late last night, Anchorage police said he was rescued by a "quick-thinking neighbor."

Morales-Rodriguez had been playing in a driveway on the 10600 block of Elmore Road as his younger brothers, ages 1 and 2, played inside a parked Cadillac limousine shortly after 10 p.m Wednesday.

Police said they believe the toddlers were somehow able to shift the car out of park, rolling it down the driveway and pinning Morales-Rodriguez beneath the driver's side.

Neighbor Khody Gerhardt witnessed the accident, and ran to retrieve his floor jack. As another neighbor jacked the car up off of Morales-Rodriguez's body, Gerhardt crawled under the vehicle and pulled the boy out into the driveway.

The 8-year-old wasn't breathing.

Gerhardt immediately began CPR, and soon the boy began breathing again.

Morales-Rodriguez was then driven to a local hospital, and police said his condition is not considered life threatening.

Glad the 8 yr old boy appears to be alright, and that the two younger ones are okay. But, what the heck are a 1 yr old, 2 yr old and 8 yr old doing playing outside at 10pm on a week night? Parents??

Where the heck were the parents? It doesn't even say they came out during this whole thing. Also why the heck would you have such small children outside, let alone, playing in a vehicle. Such a sad story, but what a great neighbor. Glad that the boy is ok. I hope the parents truly learned a lesson in all of this... Keep your kids in your sight and don't let them play in cars, running or not!

It wasn't family it was the neighbor that got the jack that started CPR...please believe that OCS will be stopping by their house in the next two weeks depending on if they rate this a P3 or P1....

Uhm, yeah. I always let my kids play outside in my unlocked car. How else am I gonna find a babysitter at 10pm on a Wednesday night. That's when my babysitter is at their second job as a street pharmacist in Spenard. And you all know how far Elmore is from Spenard. It's hard to get good help these days when you are drinking beer and watching Hulk Hogan's Micro-wrestling show. Sheesh!!!

These kind of accidents happen the world over. I live in Ireland and here every year at least there is usually at least one case of a driver reversing over his/her toddler. Invariably they are killed, unlike this situation. It just happens, and its not due to carelessness I think; kids will sometimes rush out to a parent and being tiny they are not seen by the driver. So. The moral of the story is get out of your car and double check.
