ANCHORAGE – One Anchorage man is in the hospital, after police officers on scene said two mystery civilians saved his life.

“That’s one thing I love about Alaska,” said Lieutenant Dave Parker. “Folks usually don’t hesitate to hop out and help other people.”

Sunday, by the Salvation Army off of Dimond Boulevard, a 17-year-old female driver hit Israel Hale.

Hale, 25, was driving a pickup truck, when his trailer, loaded with various building supplies, broke down in the road. He got out of his truck to deal with the mechanical issues.

The unnamed 17-year-old, who had been driving behind Hale, collided with him and pinned him in between her vehicle and the trailer.

Hale received severe damage to both of his legs and lost a significant amount of blood. APD credits his rescue to a woman who immediately jumped out of her vehicle and identified herself as a nurse.

Another man, said to be wearing a green shirt, also came to help. The woman applied tourniquets to both of his legs.

The driver who hit Hales was reportedly blinded by the sunlight. Police are still investigating.

According to Parker, the man and woman who helped Hale left the scene before officers had a chance to get their names, and now APD would like the public's help finding them. If you have any information as to their identity, call 786-8900.

I'd leave too. You can help someone and then some lawyer will decide to sue you over some detail.
