ANCHORAGE - It may be cold outside, but imagine this: plunging into an icy cold lake for a good cause.
Plenty of people are planning to do just that a week from Saturday.

December 15 is the date for the annual Polar Plunge, the biggest fundraiser of the year for Special Olympics in Alaska. This year more than a thousand people have signed up to jump into the icy waters of Goose Lake.

The event began four years ago with just a few hundred people willing to take the plunge. Now it’s grown into a huge team event that often includes costumes and other festivities. The fun takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. December 15 at Goose Lake.
