ANCHORAGE - More people are using the bus to get around town.
People Mover said it’s seen an increase in riders since the beginning of the year and had it’s biggest spike was in February.
The public transportation director said he's not sure what affect the rising gas prices will have.
He said four years ago when prices were high there was a noticeable increase in riders, which did not taper off when the costs dropped back down.
“I think the numbers are going to continue to increase probably on a smaller level as summer comes in,” said Public Transportation Director Lance Wilber. “We get a different set of riders as summer comes. We get more tourists, but fewer commuters on there. The gas prices I think will be interesting to watch.
According to Wilber, People Mover plans to update and improve schedules in July and will upgrade the fare boxes to make it easier to get bus tickets.
