Mitch Seavey won the 2013 Iditarod Sled Dog Race Tuesday night, crossing the finish line under the burled arch in Nome at 10:39 p.m. Aliy Zirkle, close behind Seavey, came in second at 11:03 p.m., followed by Jeff King at 12:21 a.m. Wednesday. As of 6 a.m. Wednesday, 11 mushers, including last year's winner, Mitch's son Dallas Seavey, had finished the Last Great Race. Mitch Seavey is the oldest musher to have won the Last Great Race, while his son Dallas was the youngest winner in 2012. Mitch Seavey's father, Dan, finished five Iditarod races. Mitch Seavey and his dog team took 9 days, 7 hours, 39 minutes and 56 seconds to complete the race. 

This was the second win for Seavey. Since winning the race in 2004, he’s consistently been in the top ten, except for 2011, when he was forced to withdraw after severely injuring his hand.

Zirkle was looking to grab her first victory in the Iditorad. She placed 11th in 2011 and last year came in just one hour behind winner Dallas Seavey. Also noteworthy: In 2000 she became the first and only woman to win the Yukon Quest.

Have watched the Iditarod for several years on the internet. Visited Jeff Kings farm a few yrs ago. Hope the pups we held made it to the race when grown. cj from Fl.
