Thank you Mayor Sullivan for setting up the Education Summit,we need change for our biggest and most precious assets, our children. I'm glad that Channel 2 reported that our current ASD superintendent was not brought in from the beginning. Why is she so worried, she's running our school district and allowed it to wallow for years my teenager has been in school. I'm so sick and tired of her and bureaucrats saying Alaska is different, it is no different than any other state it's just another poor excuse because she doesn't/can't/won't make good choices. She had the power to make changes possible and she didn't. I'm one student's parent who gives her an F for leadership and glad to see her go. Thank you Mr. Sullivan for allowing the public comment and parents to give their input in February,I'm sure many will come with valuable information that will benefit our children,we are the voters and will be there to give input for the benefit of our children.

Mayor Sullivan suddenly cares about education, really? Where has he been until now? These showcase conferences are often without merit except as political cover for people like Sullivan, and a chance for those who don't believe in public education to bash it. It also gives vendors a chance to hawk their snake oil. Much ado about nothing. An educated and knowledgeable public is essential to maintaining a democracy. This was Thomas Jefferson's assertion. Our problem is we have allowed our public education system to deteriorate along with the rest of the nation's infrastructure and only a concerted and long term commitment to making it viable again, with true learning goals that involve thinking and analysis, will have a prayer of succeeding. I doubt the mayor has that in mind for his summit.
