Man Shoots, Kills 2 in Home Invasion, Police Say

Muldoon resident Larry James, 55, called Anchorage police shortly after midnight to report that he had fired shots at two intruders.

Two people are dead following an early morning shooting in Muldoon.

According to Anchorage police, 55-year-old Larry James called police at 12:23 a.m. and told them that he had just fired shots at intruders who had entered his home at 705 Muldoon Road.

Responding officers learned that two 19-year-old men entered James’ home, and at least one of them was armed.

Intruders forced James to open his safe, but James produced a handgun and fired shots at them.

Both men suffered apparent gunshot wounds to the torso and were taken to area hospitals for treatment, however, efforts to save their lives were unsuccessful.

Larry James was also taken to a hospital for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police are searching for a third suspect who they believe was part of the robbery attempt.

If you have any information, call Anchorage police at 789-8900.

So wait... Armed men entered someone else's home and threatened that person while robbing them and there are people here who think it was wrong that the victim fought back!? If it were my child in the morgue I would feel sad and ashamed that I raised a horrible child. I would blame myself! These two young men paid with their lives because they criminals - I do not feel sorry for them. This is a plain and simple case of self defense. Drugs or not. They messed up, the broke the law, they threatened another person's life and paid.

Have to be another voice of... You guys make me sick to think they should be living! No, they shouldn't be. Because, they had a weapon, even a FIST is a weapon and they were stealing, and telling someone they would kill him. So a big F to them. The man is a hero, not only did he defend his property, HIS life, but he defended everyone other person's life who these guys would have attacked in the future. A HERO. As to the guy who had a daughter, well maybe she will grow up, and get a real job and not be robbing houses, i wouldn't wanna end up like daddy if that was me!

Some commenter said something about the homeowner applying Capital Punishment to these poor kids that were using firearms just as scare tactics. Capital Punishment? For crying outloud. That's what governments, through the judicial system, apply to convicted felons. This is self-defense, plain and simple. A birthright here in these US.If you don't want to be (rightfully) killed, don't be a criminal. They chose their path, they get to assume the consequences. It is their choice, their's only. The problem with many people is that they confuse self-defense with vigilantism and capital punishment. They believe that just because they broke into your house, masked and armed, and at gunpoint they forced you to give them what they want, you should not assume they could kill you, that you should comply. The problem is, how do you know they don't want YOUR life as well? Or your daughter's? How's that their decision to make, and how it is that you don't have a right to ensure your survival?

Just because someone enters a house with a gun does not mean that they are going to kill someone. It's more of a scare tactic. If you would have known these kids, you would think other wise. I'm not defending what they did, but they did not deserve to die. I cannot believe some of the things being said. If this happened to your family or friends you would not want people saying this. Let the families and friends mourn in peace. I pray that God has mercy on your souls.

Respect Needed. said on Saturday, Nov 19 at 4:25 PM

Wow, I cannot believe some of the things people have to say. First off, for those who say they deserve it, you think that breaking and entering deserves capital punishment? I really don't think that's where you should stand. Second, before you say anything, you should know the situation. The homeowner is no hero, but a dirty drug dealer. Which most people in the community know. Before you attack these people, learn both sides of the story. Two kids are dead and of course cannot defend themselves. Regardless, what these kids were doing was wrong, but they were probably trying to get there money back from getting ripped off. Drugs will do that to people. So leave it alone, the families are in pain and I would pray that if this were to happen to anyone in your family that people would have enough decency to let them mourn in peace...unlike you. Sad to see two lives gone, but they are in the hearts of their family I'm sure. Prayers to the families and friends.

It is sad to hear the way some of you speak. Regardless of the circumstances two young lives were lost. I bet you wouldn't be talking that way if it was your son in the morgue, huh? You would be crying fouls etc but since it is not your kids you talk big and praise the shooter. The home owner in question is a known drug dealer in the community and the facts will come out soon enough regarding the situation at hand. I bet my money that he tried to rip off these two individuals and they were shot in the process. Drug dealing is a risky business and the home owner is lucky they didn't shoot him first. Regardless, killing another human isn't grounds for ignorance and stupidity which many of these comments encompass. With that being said I suggest Alaska put more money into it's educational system because the constituents have been dumb down to the Jerry Springer level. God save America, keep Alaskans in Alaska!

To the families of the deceased, may you all find peace. But this is not right to be victimized. Now the system should give it some serious thought about these teens.

My guess would be they knew him/ knew he had a safe.... could be coincidence. Could be more to the story. I spent my dividend at Walmart this year- 2 handguns, pump shotgun and lots of ammo. Then spent 2 days at the range practicing. Anyone walks into my house with bad intent will NOT be walking out! Sad that Anchorage and the Valley have come to this, but frontier justice is needed to send a message to the element who chooses to live a life of crime. The cops make a half-hearted effort but it's not even close to effective anymore. My thoughts go to Mr James, it's going to be a very hard emotional time for him, regardless of how justified he may be in shooting two people.

If the investigation proves this to be a legitimate invasion and not some deal gone wrong, then justice is served. Maybe the next piece of trash will think twice before they try to pull something on another innocent person. What day is trash day in that part of town anyway? You know what they say about playing with fire.... Hip Hip Hooray! hip hip Hooray! It is a shame that the home owner will most likely be dealing with this legally and emotionally for some time.

Now the only thing this man has to fear is the dead men's family and friends who know where he lives etc. He will not be safe in Anchorage. Then the official 'raping' of this man's privacy will continue with investigations into every pigtail he pulled since kindergarten. Rather than being overpoliced... APD should be dispanded and jobs give to the mortuaries and cremation centers to just do the remains collection and family notifications without revealing who killed the loved ones. I think there is already a post mortem clean-up crew in town doing a bumper business [sic]. Sure be a lot cheaper. we could keep the meter maids if we need any type of enforcement.. like our Mayor's sidewalk ordinance.... of course the mayor could just come out and shoot the fellow and call Post Mortem Services.. but Sullivan does not like to get his hands dirty does he?
