Wasilla Man Presumed Drowned by Rushing CreekAt left, Alaska Wildlife Troopers' Helo 1 A 51-year-old Wasilla man is presumed drowned after he tried to cross the swollen, fast running, Butte Creek near mile 80 of the Denali Highway on Monday, according to state troopers. Troopers say Bart Barnes was part of a hunting group stranded by high water when he tried to cross the creek on an ATV and was swept downstream. Alaska Wildlife Troopers flew a helicopter over the creek and the adjacent Susitna River but could not find a body. Trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters said Troopers have helped ferry young children in the hunting party across the river to a safer location but some adults are staying behind with their gear, machines and game until the water recedes. |
