Man Killed in Three Vehicle CollisionANCHORAGE - Isaac Juneby, 70, of Eagle, Alaska, died on the scene of a late Sunday night accident involving three vehicles. Juneby was driving a Ford Taurus south on Lake Otis and ran a red light approaching O'Malley Road, at which point his vehicle was t-boned by a Ford Expedition heading west on O'Malley. The collision forced the vehicles into the eastbound lanes of O'Malley, striking a Ford Explorer. Juneby was trapped inside the Taurus and was extricated by the Anchorage Fire Department, and pronounced dead at the scene. The other two drivers went to hospitals for treatment. Police say at this time they do not believe alcohol was a factor. |

Everyone lapses when they drive, everyone. I almost ran a red light the other day and I'm the furthest thing from old, incapacitated or anything else. Driving is dangerous period, something we all forget. Isaac was a relative of mine, he made his mark in preserving our language, something I've never even had the time to learn but am glad it is preserved

isaac was anchorage to see his sister who was severely beaten. i am sure he was distraught about that. I know he was not mentally disabled. i had just seen him a couple days before his accident. he was such a nice man. and a really good friend.

@ Eagle Eye, thank you for your words. I could not have said it better. I hope my father is remembered for the wonderful man he was. This is so tragic, on top of tragedy. I love my dad, so much, I'm sure he was just tired. This doesn't seem real. Please, pray for my family.

Many things make us poor drivers fatigue, alcohol, texting, stress, eating, tuning radio, and age. Isaac Juneby's sister had been bludgeoned and was dieing, he drove all the way from Eagle, participated in leading life decisions for the family as he had in promoting education, sobriety and leadership for his village and all in the Eagle and Han communities. Distracted maybe, careless or reckless was not his style. As an elected leader in our communities we all looked up to and respected this leader and responsible veteran and citizen. Isaac would be horrified if he would have caused injury or harm to another and had and would again put his life on the line to save others. What a terrible accident. Condolences to family and friends as this state just lost a great leader.

This is another sad deal. We don't know the facts of the accident, so it is pre-mature to make snap judgements. Old Timer makes a good point; there are a lot of people driving who shouldn't be. The state does require an eye test when renewing a license every 5 years. Families should step in and do the driving; this is a family matter as well as a public safety issue.

At what age does the state start making drivers COME IN and pass the driving test AGAIN? I know several older drivers who shouldn't still be driving but renew by mail and thus continue. Not saying everyone over the age of 65 can't drive, but how about making them go in and see if they can still pass the eye test and maybe a hearing test also. I know that it is very hard to get around up here without a drivers license, but at some point it needs to be taken away for everyone's safety. Sorry for the loss to this family and for the people injured when he ran the red light.
