A 58-year-old Mountain View man is accused of molesting two girls – sisters who lived in his apartment complex. According to the victim’s mother, “Leonardo Lovette the second” was well known in the area. CBS 11’s Alexis Fernandez was in the courtroom as the girls’ mother watched her neighbor stand before a judge. Leonardo Lovette II faces ten charges, which include eight counts of sexual abuse of a minor, one count for assault and one for indecent exposure. He’s accused of raping a 9-year-old girl and her 5-year-old sister. Their mother and grandfather were in court today, but did not want to be identified. “I just want to know why he did… why he betrayed me as a friend – he basically used me to get to my kids and that wasn’t right, that’s how I feel,” the mother said. According to the charging documents, the girls’ mother approached police on November 15, when she noticed her 5-year-old daughter was buttoning her pants after she had visited Lovette and his girlfriend in the apartment upstairs. “I believe her when it first happened because I’ve been there, and I know what your emotions are,” the mother said. Her older 9-year-old daughter was also molested by the man she trusted. She told investigators that Lovette showed them pornographic images, including a video in which Lovette is having sex with another girl her age – a girl she says she recognized. The girls told investigators they were scared to report the abuse because Lovette had threatened to kill the entire family if they did. Their mother says she had known Lovette and his girlfriend for nearly a year. It’s trust the girls’ mother says she wishes she could take back. Police say because Lovette was an after-school tutor and worked at a church on Debarr Road, they suspect there could be more victims. He’s also had multiple run-ins with the law, which include felony drug arrests, theft, drunken driving and assault. If you know of any other victims, you’re asked to contact Detective Leonard Torres at 786-8573. Lovette is being held on $100,000 bail, and requires a third-party custodian.

Why was this man allowed near children? He has 86 records in courtview. While none are for child sexual assualt, there is assualt, theft, controlled substance abuse, etc... He was fined and 90% of each fine was suspended. Mandatory background checks when working with kids should be the law if it isn't already! Shame on whoever it was that let him near the kids unsupervised!

10 cent bullet... put him down like the rabid dog he is. won't cost the taxpayers much. No chance of him skipping bail, or getting out. No worries that he will break rehabilitation and harm other children. My heart goes out to those little girls. Wishing them healing and strength and peace.

His girl friend should be in a cell as well, she KNEW what had been happening. You have to ask, why wasn't backgrounds checks done...if they were, then you must ask, what is the critera disqualifies you for working with children in Alaska? As one before me ask, what is the law in Alaska for working with children? Maybe "death penalty" would be a deterrent against rape of minors...that is if we could have swift action on the execution of the penalty. Our society is too "PC", you can have a person on video brutally killing a person, and he still waits decades on death row for the sentence to be carrried out. A sentence is only a deterrent if it is carried out in a timely fashion.

This is the sort of trash that's housed and cared for at the Veterans Domiciliary located on 3001 C street. L Lovitt lived, worked and probably got a reference as a good candidate to work as a after-school tutor at a church on Debarr Road.

If anyone in Alaska is experiencing problems with the Justice System I would encourage you to file a complaint with the online service that is available. Simply go to the WhiteHouse website and scroll down to the Office of Civil Rights and file today. The more they know they more they can assist those effected by problems experienced in Alaska.
