An Anchorage man has been arrested after allegedly trying to rob a Muldoon hardware store.

Police say on Wednesday afternoon, 33-year-old Jason Genaw walked into the Ace Hardware store, picked up a drill and holesaw, and left without paying for them.

Genaw was pursued by a store employee as he ran from the store. When the employee caught up with Genaw he reportedly dropped the merchandise, pulled out a large knife and attempted to slash him. After the alleged assault, Genaw jumped into a vehicle, which was stopped by police.

Genaw faces charges of theft, assault and robbery.

The Ace Hardware employee was not injured.
