ANCHORAGE - Each day Toyota picks five charities from around the country to compete for a new truck through a program called "100 Cars for Good."

Thursday the Children's Lunchbox – a Bean's Café program – was one of those in the running.

During the summer the program serves up to 700 meals a day.

The program director says the goal is to make sure no kids are going hungry. The program expanded during winter to include Wasilla as well.

In addition to making meals for the Mat-Su, staff members also drive hundreds of meals every day to different children's programs.

Children's Lunchbox was the winner of the competition.

why don't we invest in agriculture in alaska? this way we can feed the state if we have to? think about it...we could have our own CO-OP and hire folks to run it and operate and sell foods? milk, dairy, vegs, fruits, beef, chicken? Ak owned Mat-Maid?

That is a good idea. With global warming and all, even up north in Selawik Alaska there is or was a "Spud Farm" where up in the river, there was potatoes, radishes, lettuce, and whatever grown, and they did good. That needs to be investigated for that route here in Alaska....
