Lemonade Entrepreneurship Is Serious BusinessProgram volunteers said Lemonade Day is a great way to get kids to think of Alaska’s resourcesChildren from across Anchorage opened up lemonade stands to celebrate National Lemonade Day. University of Alaska Anchorage College of Business and Public Policy and the University of Alaska Center for Economic Development hosted Lemonade Day as a way to show children how to develop business plans and put them into action. Kids are encouraged to spend some of their earnings on themselves, put some away and give the rest to a charity of their choice. Program volunteers said Lemonade Day is a great way to get kids to think of Alaska’s resources. “Being a small business owner myself I like to give back to the community and get the tourism industry involved in entrepreneurship,” said Candice McDonald owner of Salmon Berry Tours. Dean Bear Baker of the University of Alaska Anchorage College of Business and Public Policy said, “We are basically a resource-based state. While we have some entrepreneurship activity in the state, [it’s] not very much compared to most others”. Nationwide 60,000 lemonade stands pulled in $4.2 million last year. |
