Aliy Zirkle is currently in first place in the Iditarod, pulling ahead of Hugh Neff, leaving the Rohn checkpoint 188 miles into the 975-mile race.

Last year's Iditarod champion, John Baker, left Puntilla Lake in sixth place Monday. He dropped one dog and is down to 15 dogs on his team.

60 mushers are behind them and at this point no mushers have scratched from the race.

This year KTVA is partnering with the Anchorage Daily News for Iditarod coverage. Reporter Kyle Hopkins is on the trail and spoke with musher Dan Seavey about the chances his son and grandson have in this years race.

“Rest assured he hasn't been lying around on the couch since the last race and he's putting together a darn good team,” said Seavey. But by the same token I’ve been really closely associated with Mitch's [Seavey] team this year since I trained with Mitch. I tell you what my friend, if you're a betting man don't bet against him.”
