ANCHORAGE - With just hours to go before stores closed, shoppers were out in Anchorage in droves to pick up last minute holiday gifts.

Patsy Chandler and her husband from Houston, Texas, were visiting their son. Chandler said she was hoping to find some good sales. Others out shopping were looking for the same thing.

A new store in the Fifth Avenue Mall saw some last minute shoppers. "I think we're noticing a little bit more of the men coming in for the last minute shopping for their wives with the kids." Ann Marie Valdez said. Her store, Apricot Lane, sells women's clothing and accessories.

A little boy behind her browsed earrings and discussed which ones his mom would like best with his father.

Another popular last minute item was stocking stuffers. At Once in a Blue Moose, shoppers were finding  Alaska themed gifts -- shoppers were few this morning, but Dolores Afusia expected the pace to pick up before closing at six.
