ANCHORAGE - A carved eagle that was stolen from its maker was recovered Monday night in Anchorage.
Anchorage police were called to a home where a woman in the house said the artwork had just been dropped off.
Police are pursuing two suspects, but no one has been charged.
Why someone would steal a wooden eagle, with a wingspan of more than 6 feet, is baffling to artist Jordan Anderson.
"I knew they weren't going to get away with it because if you were to steal something like that and put it inside, you can't have anyone over, because everyone knows my work,” said Anderson, who has a workshop on Mile 100 of the Seward Highway.
Early Sunday morning, on his way to deliver the eagle to a tourist business on Fifth Avenue, thieves took the artwork out of Anderson’s truck.
"I got out of Lowe's, and I didn't even look in the back or suspect the eagle was stolen,” said Anderson. “I got a minute down the road, and looked in the back, and I was like, 'what, it's gone?' and then I noticed that my chainsaw was gone too.”
The 26-year-old didn't want to wait for his eagle to be released by police, so he created another one.
On Tuesday afternoon he delivered it to his client.

Anderson will get the first eagle back from police on Wednesday morning.
