A man has pleaded guilty to feeding as many as 10 to 15 black bears at his home near Tee Harbor just north of Juneau.

Alaska Department of Fish and Game officers say 65-year-old Arnold Hanger had been actively feeding the bears dog food.

During a search of Hanger’s home and property, Alaska Wildlife Troopers found 382 empty bags of dog food, but said Hanger did not own a dog.

As part of a plea agreement, Hanger has been ordered to perform 80 hours of community service work with the Department of Fish and Game Wildlife Division, and has also been placed on probation for two years.

that black bears are more dangerous than grizzlies? They will stalk you as a food source.Unlike the grizzlies, who attack only in protecting their cubs, or maybe a young one starving to death, or a wounded griz, the black bear loves anything he can get his claws into. This jerk is making it dangerous for other people in the area. Bears roam for miles, and while he mayb not have a bad encounter, what about others at a later date? WQho knows he may be the black bears NEXT dinner. Stupid mistake.
