Jim Lanier is First to Arrive at Iditarod Halfway Checkpoint

Arrives at Cripple Checkpoint

CRIPPLE CHECKPOINT – Musher Jim Lanier, of Chugiak, arrived at the Cripple Checkpoint at 1:55 p.m.

Lanier, who is running in his 15th Iditarod, arrived with 13 dogs. The Cripple Checkpoint is the halfway marker of the race.

ITG Project Manager for GCI, April Browning, was there to give the halfway prizes to Lanier. These prizes consisted of a trophy and $3,000 in gold nuggets.

He will again be presented with his award later in Nome.

Following Lanier are Tent Herbest, Mitch Seavey, Aliy Zirkle and Dallas Seavey.
