After an eight-year battle with lung and liver cancer, JJ “Jack” Powers passed away Tuesday night. He was 69 years old.

Powers owned Tudor Road Bingo, which family members say gave more than $20 million to dozens of charities over the past two decades. He also ran for lieutenant governor last year.

A wall at the bingo hall is dedicated to his work, with plaques and pictures of the organizations he helped.

His brother, John Powers, says those are just small tributes to a man who gave so much to the community.

The Powers family will hold a public viewing Monday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m., and again on Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Tuesday’s memorial will be followed by a celebration of life at Tudor Road Bingo at 4 p.m.

My condolences to the Adam and the whole Powers family. I never met or knew JJ Powers, but I know Adam and he has been my blessing, and I thank JJ Powers for his son, I will work to make sure he is safe and healthy here in the City of Angeles.
