ANCHORAGE – One 90-second video, showing a girl younger than ten being raped, tipped-off the Anchorage Police Department’s (APD) Alaska Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC), that USAF Major Peter Christopher Davis was a potential conspirator in sex crimes against children.

Thursday, Davis, 34, was charged in five counts of distribution and possession of child pornography.

The video was accidentally sent to an Alaska State Trooper, which started the investigation February 23. The movie had been previously identified as child pornography in a previous investigation.

After the trooper traced the IP address he found that it was downloaded in the Anchorage area. He later obtained a subpoena and was able to receive the records from Davis's internet.

In June, APD Detective James Estes, who is a part of the Cyber Crimes Unit, became involved in the investigation. On the 22nd of the same month, using undercover investigative software, Estes found images being downloaded of a prepubescent girl, younger than twelve, in a pornographic pose. Three days later he discovered six more.

According to charging documents, through Facebook, they found that Peter Davis worked in the Air Force. Police tried to contact Peter Davis at his work on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, but officials said he was on leave.

Police searched the Davis home on July 19. Police seized three computers, along with other electronic devices and brought them back to the police Cyber Crimes Unit.

Detectives found 270 images and two videos.

Davis has no criminal record.

He is being held on $25,000 bail, plus a third party custodian.

How was the video "accidentally" sent to a state trooper?! Anyone else find that peculiar?
