ALASKA – An Alaska-based soldier, of Tokyo, Japan, died Monday after sustaining wounds when his unit was attacked with improvised explosive devices and small arms fire.

Private First Class Vincent J. Ellis was stationed in Khost Province, Afghanistan when they were attacked June 1. He was taken to a medical treatment center in Germany, where he succumbed to his injuries.

He was assigned to the 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) 25th Infantry Division and deployed in December for Operation Enduring Freedom.

A memorial will be held at JBER and the next of kin have been notified.
