Shell Alaska is One Step Closer to Oil, Gas Exploration in ArcticThe Environmental Protection Agency issued Shell Alaska an air permit which allows Shell to drill with its Kulluk rig next summer.
The federal government has fined Escopeta Oil $15 million for a violation involving the transportation of one of its jack-up rigs.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency fined the company for what they claim was a violation of the federal Jones Act. Back in March, Escopeta moved a jack-up rig from Galveston, Texas, to Cook Inlet using a Chinese-flagged vessel for part of the journey. The Escopeta jack-up rig has been drilling for natural gas since September and is the first rig of its kind to operate in the inlet since 1994. Danny Davis, then-president of Escopeta, told Petroleum News that the company is deciding whether to appeal the fine. |

Three wells in the Chukchi Sea is where many of our subsistence food comes from, and it bothers me to know that the animals we will gather may be affected by drilling not by only one drill but three.

Thanks for the info on Dutch Shell but you forgot to mention all the service companies involved. All of which have many alaskans working for them. You also did not mention an Alakan/US based company that has the resources to do the job.

Thats because all of the independant companies that could have done it have been run out of business and bankrupted by these giant corporations. Working for Shell is not the answer, even if it means a FEW jobs. Alaskans are in it for the long haul. These large corporations are fueled by GREED!

Also, look what BP did to the US in the gulf of mexico. Look what Exxon did in the PWS. These corporations are evil and manipulate gas prices for thier own profits. They do not care about us or our state. It's about money, and look how much we pay for a gallon of gas now.

The incompetence in this state is astounding. No clue and all emotion. Most of those posting are probably living off the hard work and sacrifice of others.

If the companies have share holders and stock then I would start buying stock...get a group to invest about twenty bucks each and see what you can buy...be careful about those 20's they add up to 100's then to 500's and 1000's... so instead of crying about how evil they are take those pennies and turn it into 20 bucks.. and tell the oil companies the buck stops here. and it will in the future when the 99% end up OWNING 99% of the oil companies with pennies...

Also consider how many non-residents work on the slope, some say it is more than 75%. How does this benefit Alaska and our residents?
