Injured Anchorage Officer Returns HomePolice officer Randy Hughes was greeted by friends, family and fellow officers at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport Saturday night.
After sustaining serious injuries in a car crash late last month and traveling to Seattle for treatment, Anchorage police officer Randy Hughes has finally returned home
"It's very good to see Randy coming back home,” said Dep. Chief Mark Habbe, one of the dozens of well-wishers who gathered to greet Hughes at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport Saturday night. “It was excellent to see the community turnout and the support that he had." On Sept. 23, Hughes was driving inbound on the Glenn Highway when a sedan speeding the wrong way into oncoming traffic smashed into his patrol car, pinning him inside. He was flown to Harborview Medical Center with critical injuries to his pelvis and foot, and now faces months of rehabilitation and recovery. But despite his injuries, he remained in good spirits as paramedics wheeled him through the airport Saturday night. "He was in a very good mood,” Habbe said. “I think the support that he had both on the plane and then when he landed was a real tribute to him, so I think he appreciated it." |
