NORTH POLE - After a much needed vacation this fall, Santa Claus is back at the North Pole.

“This isn't work. I'm Santa Claus -- you can't call it work. Ho ho ho!,” he chuckles. “I just love being at the North Pole here, greeting people when I have the chance. And other times I'm with the elves making toys.”

Some kids are excited for some face time with Father Christmas and walk right up to see him. Others buckle under the pressure and all they can do is cry.

Letters from kids who can’t make the trip north fill up Santa’s mailbox. “Ho ho ho! That's just a fraction of the mail I get,” said Santa as he sifted through a small handful of envelopes. “Wait until the mailman comes this afternoon, he'll bring bags of it in. Ho ho ho ho ho!”

He tries to read them all. Of course, there are the usual requests for dolls, books and electronics. “Kids these days ask for iPods as young as five,” said Saint Nick.

But there are some Santa just can’t answer. “I've gotten a couple requests about keeping their daddies safe in Afghanistan, and I told them I can't do that. I would just pray for them and hope for their safe returns,” said Mr. Claus.

As Christmas gets closer, Kris Kringle’s schedule gets crazier but he always makes time for the young and young at heart.
