Hunting the Paranormal in Anchorage
G.H.O.S.T. Research investigates hotel haunting
ANCHORAGE - Our obsession with the supernatural and paranormal has spawned shows like “Supernatural,” “Paranormal Activity,” “Paranormal Witness,” “Ghost Hunters” and the like.
Right here in Anchorage, we've got our very own paranormal investigators.
CBS 11 Photojournalist John Thain tagged along as they checked out a local hotel room that's rumored to be haunted.
The walls of the Anchorage Hotel have seen a lot since they were first built in 1916. During all those years, guests here have sometimes left with stories of things unexplainable.
The hotel keeps a log of anything abnormal. But the most unexplainable stories of them all come from Room 215. 215 is known to be the one of the most haunted hotel rooms in the Anchorage Hotel.
Sasha Haydon is the founder of G.H.O.S.T. Research, a team of paranormal investigators in Anchorage. For her, Room 215 on Halloween night is the place to be.
“The first thing we do is turn on the digital recorders, tag ‘em etcetera. Then we set up cameras – we have closed circuit TV,” Haydon said.
Helping with the setup were cryptozoologist Dan Williams and investigator Olivia Menezes.
Haydon said her goal is to help people who might be dealing with ghosts. But contacting them isn't always an easy matter.
Four motion sensors, eight cameras, several microphones and two electromagnetic sensors recorded their conversation.
The session lasted about an hour, and the paranormal activity was debatable... But to be positive, they'll have to review the recordings.
Unfortunately, if anything was captured on camera, they were unable to see it. Most of their video seemed to have vanished.
Williams said setbacks like these are all too common in the world of the paranormal. “In the first place, it's difficult to catch any proof of anything. You hear a million stories and you are lucky to get one shot of anything. Then when you’re messing with electronics and they don't work for you, it makes it doubly difficult.”
Whether the technical difficulties resulted from ghosts or coincidence might never be known. The only thing we may know for certain is that the mystery surrounding this room in the Anchorage Hotel will continue.
