Prostate cancer is the number one cancer diagnosed in men throughout Alaska and the U.S.

The Alaska Urological Institute is teaming up with local hospitals to provide free prostate cancer screenings starting next week.

Alaska Regional Hospital and Providence Medical Center are offering free exams this month and the Valley Urology Center will offer them for free on the last day of September.

Medical officials suggest men over age 40, those with a family history of prostate cancer and higher-risk males like African-Americans and Hispanics be examined annually.
