Oh ye of little mind sets. The conservative Alaskans that live in and around Anchorage are frightening to me and should be to others as well. Does not the good book say, "Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged!". While America falls apart around you, you are still so blinded by the pitfalls that have gotten us to this point. We no longer care for our fellow man, we want what we want and when we want it and the hell with the rest of them. This is not the same America it was even 20 years ago, we honestly don't care about the guy next door or what he has to do to feed his family or keep the heat on. We look at it as "not our problem", what would you do if in their shoes? There are many businesses that most people are not aware of here in Anchorage and surrounding areas that are both owned and operated by sex offenders and ex-felons, yet you never even have know it. I am neither of these but have been down and out before, now have my own small business and don't believe putting others down.

I didn't realize it was "judgement day" right now. I didn't know that my neighbors were the judges of who is worthy or who is not to take up a space on earth - guess I missed that commerical.

a senior and/or disabled male or female protester, who is not a violent criminal and not PURVY would be taken more seriously. i'd have to look it up, but aren't RSO's, whether they mistreat kids or adults, capital-punished or life-sentenced in other states?

Homeless marine - the problem here, which you clearly fail to recognize is that this piece of scum is a sex offender. Not only is he a sex offender, he has chosen not to play by the rules...If all homeless people were upstanding citizens, how did they become homeless? The majority of the homeless people in Anchorage are addicts of some sort or sex offenders. Find me 3 good and I'll pay you for your trouble. Until then, quit whining and taking things personally. If you know you are different than be proud knowing you aren't liket his scumbag. If you're a sex offender too, kindly remove yourself from this planet so the good world doesn't have to.

He was homeless by choice because he doesn't like rules and wanted to do his own thing, so a bit ironic that he would want to make some deep statement on homelessness. He was just trying to make people look foolish, or himself important. If Mr Martin indeed wanted to help make a difference, there are 97 other things he could have done to get his message across and even more effective.

Most of these homeless are drunks, druggies, or criminals. Yeah there might be one homeless cause they are in school and trying to get a job, but thats very rare among the homeless. Why not ship the homeless back to their home, the villages?

Guess what? Some of us cannot get a job. I had to learn to make time to go to the library to use the internet, use public transportation and sleep with one eye open in the shelters. Am I employable? If so, then can any of you tell me where to go apply? Until you can, I suggest that you not be so hard on us. At one point this country asked me to defend it and I did so and I have a hard time reasoning how that gives anyone the right to ship me off on a plane or put a bullet in my head as some of you suggest on these forums. Homeless people are still citizens of this country, just like you and I can assure you that most of us do not "choose" to live on the street. As soon as I can afford a home and find myself a job, I will, but in the meantime can I continue to survive on the streets without feeling like I am offending you?

I say quit with the hand outs and let them live the life they chose. If they are sex affenders they should be required to have a resident with their name on the least, oh can't get one..move out of Anchorage then..we want to make our streets as safe as possible, I know this is only 1 step towards that, but it is a step in the right direction.

Go look this piece of trash up on Alaska's Courtview and you will see that he violated his probation MULTIPLE times by failing to register as a sex offender at least 5 times in the past year alone. There are 40 exact matches for John W Martin and at least half are for John W Martin III...He's a menace. This is the kind of trash I don't want to see littering my city. No tolerance for pedophiles and sex offenders. One strike, one short drop and a quick snap.

Old-Alaskan you are mistaken. There were many bums living in little cabins on the outskirts of Anchorage, barely surviving on odd jobs, and putting on a drunk for days or longer. Sometimes they did not own the cabin. Prices are higher now. It is hard to slap up a shack.There are more homeless now. People are not as willing to help.

I am not a fan of our mayor, but he is right in that this man is a terrible example/face of our poor and homeless. This man should be just that, and get a job or two.. or three. Whatever it takes to be mostly self-sufficient and not paid for by the rest of us hard-working folks. I don;t mind paying taxes for those of those who can't... not those of those whowon't.

An answer to Old Alaskan: The first part of what yu say is true; but the second half indicates your memory is fading. I remember the Blue Tickets and they had their place; however, it was liberals who wrote the state constitution. I'm not what you would call a liberal, but I think it is unfair to blame them for the current problem of homelessness.

old alaskan, I thought most all old folks had a kind gentleness and MOST IMPORTANTLY AN UNDERSTANDING in life. I am only 40 yes homeless people must help out society, but as a young adult I have an understanding that old alaskan probably will never have. people like old alaskan need help themselves

50 years ago we did not have these BUMS in Anchorage. They either found a job or starved. If a person truly needed help due to a disaster we all helped. These people are leaches on society because they don't want to work they want it given to them and refuse to go to shelters where they cannot do drugs or drink liquor. It's when the Liberals started coming to Anchorage that we started seeing these misfits. They should all be given a Blue Ticket with a warning yo never come back. They contribute NOTHING to the community.
