ANCHORAGE - Two vehicle collisions and a brief lockdown at a local high school early this morning led to an unexpected surprise for Anchorage resident Cristie Hayes.

Anchorage police said they first received reports of a hit-and-run at the intersection of Muldoon Road and DeBarr Road at 8 a.m., and then again at the intersection of Muldoon Road and Duben Street shortly thereafter.

Witnesses said a dark-colored Nissan Pathfinder was involved in both collisions. One driver tracked the vehicle to nearby Bartlett High School, where 19-year-old Trevor Barres left the Pathfinder and ran into the school.

Lieutenant Dave Parker, a spokesman for the Anchorage Police Department, said the school was immediately placed on lockdown and Barres was arrested in a hallway.

The vehicle had been stolen from Hayes Saturday night, and she said its return couldn’t have come at a better time.

“Yes, I just got my car back for my birthday present,” said Hayes, laughing. “That’s good.”

Barres faces charges of vehicle theft, driving without insurance and hit-and-run.

Wow,that's nice. Send the dumb one back to kindergarten, and no more driver's license.
