High School Teams Compete in Alaska’s ‘March Madness’Teams from across the state square off in Anchorage this weekANCHORAGE - It’s March Madness, but not just for college basketball. High school teams from around the state are competing at the Sullivan Arena this week for March Madness, Alaska style. Basketballs bouncing on the hardwood, sneakers squealing on the court; the're the unique sounds of spring in Anchorage, where high school kids from all over the state are competing with the same goal: to win a state championship. They've all been putting in the work for the title. West High boys basketball coach Antonio Wyche said,"it was a hard week,” and with Spring Break just before the competition, he said he and his players “decided to spend our break practicing three hours a day, getting ready for state." The kids aren't the only ones working hard. East High coach Josh Muehlenkamp said this year's 4A "Coach of the Year" has also been hitting the court. He said he "wants to get kids better. We want kids to come into your program and get better every year and understand there’s something greater then themselves." |
