Gunman Robs Subway, Beats Employee

It's deja-vu for the sandwhich shop: Exactly a month ago today, a Subway on Northern Lights Boulevard was robbed at gunpoint by a similar suspect.

They say lightning never strikes the same place twice, but an early morning robbery at an East Anchorage sandwich shop proved otherwise.

Shortly before 8 a.m, Anchorage police responded to reports of an armed robbery at a Subway Sandwich Shop on Northway Drive.

There was only one employee in the shop at the time of the robbery, and police say the 19-year-old girl was pistol whipped and beaten in the back of the head after the robber demanded money at gunpoint.

It's deja-vu all over again for the sandwhich shop: Exactly a month ago today, a Subway on Northern Lights Boulevard was robbed at gunpoint by a similar suspect.

"It very well could be the same person, because generally the description matches and certainly his mode of operation matches, the coming in, totally covering his face, his hair," said Anita Shell, a spokeswoman for the Anchorage Police Department. "It's not really clear whether he's a black male or a dark-skinned male, and then certainly beating his victims."

Police are asking anyone with information about the crime to call 786-8900

This is what happens when these fools running businesses wont allow their employees to carry arms and order them not to fight back during robberies or be fired. Now this poor girl has hospital bills, pain and suffering and the terror of being beaten to deal with.. and all for minimum wage!

Why was there only one employee there in the first place? If this shop was held up before seems there would have been more security taken. I don't understand these fast food places. Obviously, Management doesn't care to have more than one employee on in the mornings guess, money and profit are more important.

Why wasn't there more than one employee on especially at that time in the morning and when its been hit before. Is there security cameras up? Obviously management only cares about one thing..money and profit to not have more than one employee on. If this employee is smart she can take legal action for what has happened. Safety First!

Who cares about store policy...Regardless, I would start packing concealed and carry. Minimum wage isn't worth giving your life for. Would you like onions or lead with your sandwich sir? What a worthless P.O.S. beating a scared girl.

All your food chains, small business are more concern about their profits than the individuals that slave for them for minium wages. There should have been more than one person there, and IF this had happened prior then she should have a loaded gun under the counter. The pervert that beat her should get the same from the police when he is caught! He is a low life looser probably wanting drug money.

Yes, "deja-vu all over again" is redundant. I find it curious that people frequently use Yogi Berraisms without realizing how silly it makes them sound.

where the HECK was a supervisor. or at least another employee? are they allowed to have a small pepper spray on them while working, in case of emergencies like this?

The biggest question is why was there only one person in the store? I hold the manager responsible especially since this has happened before. There should be two or three minimum. If this happens again, the manager should be arrested for negligence.

I personally feel most of the comments might be wrong. I also got robbed at gunpoint August 5, in Big Lake, at a Thrift Store, never expected it in our small town. He came in the store with the gun pointed straight at me and kept it on me the whole time, he had me take the money out of the register and then came behind the counter with me and took my wallet, made me lay on the floor before he left. If I would have had a gun, I would have probably been shot, or if there was another person with me, I would have felt I had to do something more and we both could have gotten shot. Pepper spray is a joke, it is no match for a gun in your face, as the owner of the store I never thought I would give up the money if that was to happen to me, but I am alive. I have learned a lesson here though, nightly visits to the bank, no more extra cash in the store. If anyone out there wants to rob me again, things could be different this time and maybe I can get a shot off and do the city a favor!

This is very sad: All the money in the world won't make the young lady whole again. If true justice is to be had, when this idiot is caught, he should be turned over to the family and friends of the girl to administer it.
