ALASKA - Governor Parnell has appointed a former aide to the late representative Carl Gatto to take Gatto's seat in the legislature.

Shelley Hughes worked for Gatto from 2003 to 2005, and served as government relations director for the Alaska Primary Care Association from 2005 until last year.

If confirmed by house Republicans, Hughes will fill out the remainder of Gatto's term, through mid-January.

She also is running for election to the seat.

"I know there's work ahead. And I will be charting my own course but at the same time I'm mindful and respectful of the legacy that Representative Carl Gatto has left as I complete his term. And this isn't really about me, this appointment, it's really about the people of District 13," Hughes said Tuesday.

Hughes was one of three Palmer-area residents that local Republicans forwarded to the governor for consideration.

Gatto died from cancer in Seattle last month.

as long as it fits her criteria I am sure...or better yet Palin's agenda...the inner circle...do nothing and get away with everything...in the name of God as well...isn't that right dear?

yeah she is right wing nut job that pals around with Palin and Parnell wannabee politicians...from what I hear - Washington DC is enroute to audit the State of Alaska A-Z since conception...someone must have cooked the books and didn't clean up...oops...
