Today, a former Anchorage police officer, Raphael Mora-Lopez, who operated under the identity of Raphael Espinoza, pleaded guilty to federal charges of falsifying his identity.

On Tuesday, Mora-Lopez agreed to pay back $27,000 in Permanent Fund Dividend checks he received over the years.

Anchorage Police Chief Mark Mew says the discovery has led the department to reexamine its hiring practices and also to take a look at other "problem" officers to see if there could be a connection.
